Forward Together
From reentry kits to essential services, from resource guides to peer-to-peer mentoring, from one side of North Carolina to the other, OurJourney is a new approach to freedom, where being released from prison isn't just an occasion to anticipate, but also a journey to join.
19,000
Approximately 19,000 people are released each year from North Carolina’s state prisons. 70% are re-arrested within 3 years.
95%
Over 95% of all incarcerated individuals in North Carolina will return to our communities at some point.
50X
The opioid overdose death rate is 50 times higher during the first 2 weeks of release than it is for the general public.
OurJourney Reentry Kit
Our Magic Little Green Box provides essential tools for the initial days of reentry after incarceration. The OurJourney First Aid Reentry Kit program includes a package given to men on their release dates to help them as they transition from prison to freedom, from their past life to their Best Life.
Designed, created and assembled by formerly incarcerated individuals.

Play Video
Set to the song by the same title performed by Mack Brock and Pat Barrett, "The Best is Yet to Come" follows the life of Clint "CJ" Graves for the first two weeks of his life after his release from Tabor Correctional Institution in Tabor City, NC on April 7, 2022.
In this video we will see CJ begin the process of facing the challenges of reentry in his hometown of Reidsville, NC: buying clothes at Goodwill, going to the DMV to see about getting his driver's license, applying for a job. We will also watch as CJ soaks in both the thrill and profundity of freedom.
Every year in North Carolina appoximately 19,000 men and women return to freedom from prison, just like CJ. Over two-thirds will reoffend within three years, leaving behind even more broken lives, more grief, more victims. OurJourney wants to help end that cycle of sorrow by helping the formerly incarcerated discover their Best Life.
