OurJourney now awaits recognition as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
OurJourney Executive Director Brian Scott, with the assistance of Ben Votipka, an OurJourney board member, filed the necessary paperwork with the Internal Revenue Service to become a licensed nonprofit organization on April 11. Once approved, OurJourney will have 501(c)(3) status, which would allow the organization to receive donations that are tax deductible.
According to Votipka, approval can take anywhere from weeks to months, but he expects OurJourney to receive approval from the IRS within the next 4 to 6 weeks. "OurJourney can continue taking donations even without 501(c)(3) status," Votipka said, "but once it receives approval, it will be able to accept larger donations from individuals, foundations and corporations that intend to claim the donation on their federal taxes."
